FOR    IRELAND….

Back in the mid- 1980’s  I was planning  some type of production–I can’t remember now what it was –probably a video or a “short short film”–and I ran an ad in the Denver newspaper for actors.   So –this young man answers my ad.   He  showed up at my house–he was blonde,  blue eyed and wearing his hair like the lead singer from the English rock band  “A Flock of Seagulls”.   (Who at the time were very ‘hot’ ).    I asked this young  ‘actor’   if he’d ever acted in anything before–he was honest–and told me he hadn’t but that  he had just come from an audition with a Director he had never heard of.   Some guy,  he said,  who had produced a movie in Denver called “The Return of the Secaucus Seven”.   So–that was my introduction to the wonderful John Sayles–who later–directed one of my favorite movies “The Secret of Roan Innish”.  And now–this morning– I see on TV one of my new ‘favorite’ actors talking about another film set in Ireland–with a mystical, magical  story line—another “Silkie” story from the Emerald Isle.    So–SHOUT OUT to Colin Farrell –your new movie “Ondine”   looked –shall I say–“enchanting”?….               (I, Renee Ashley Baker, am  considering writing Colin Farrell into my motion picture story line.  A motion picture that I might have produced–if–it is produced at Paramount, 20th Century or The Weinstein Company.  The title?    “The Story of  ABLE “.    Casting?  How about Colin Farrell and Charlize Theron?….)

QUIZ:

GUESS   WHO  HAS  KNOWN  RENEE  ASHLEY  BAKER’S  FAMILY  SINCE  RENEE ASHLEY  BAKER  WAS  AN   INFANT?

BACK STORY:    The story, as it was told to me, goes as follows:  Tina Turner and her sister were at a St. Louis night club one night (Tina’s sister long had had aspirations of being a singer).  Anyway, the crowd in the night club began clammoring for Tina’s sister to ‘get up on the stage and sing’.  She WOULDN’T.    So–Tina stood up and said, “I’ll sing”.    Tina then  jumped up on the stage and began singing.    IKE was in the audience….           Soon after — Ike got a record contract with ‘Sun Records’ and the rest, as they say, is history….

BACK STORY TO THE BACK STORY:  Years later, in the early 1980’s  I, Renee Ashley Baker, did a face to face INTERVIEW with Tina  Turner at the old ‘Turn of the Century’ night club (in southeast Denver).    REMEMBER  TINA?    You offered me a safety pin when I tore the ___that I was wearing.  (I had taken my camera to ‘get some photos’ of  Tina.    I was doing my ‘squat down thing’–when — well–  needless to say — I DON’T do that  squat down thing  anymore!      I now stand to take all photos)…. Anyway, to continue —  TINA TURNER  was a ‘teenager’ in St. Louis when my family (my mother and my father)  knew her.    TINA’S   sister never became a singer–she instead went on to take a job with the U.S. Military  (Department of Defense) –the  aerospace industry–in California.    TINA  TURNER,  as we all know—is still beltin em out for  CAPITOL  EMI records and is still living in the  ‘south of France’  with her German boyfriend/producer. . . .

and now….
