EXT                     BOSTON  MASSACHUSETTES        DAY

SCENE   OPENS:

             WE  SEE  CARS speeding and speeding faster and faster till they are nothing more than a blur.  Is this a special effect?  A dream?   Or is it  the REALITY of the woman WE SEE standing at a city bus stop.  She stands alone;  wearing a “brown cashmere coat”.   CLOSE  UP   WE SEE   a  TEAR on her cheek.   Then –suddenly – a “strange smile”  comes upon her face.  Like a child–she begins to turn her arms back and forth, as though they are on the steering wheel of a car.  TRANSITION SHOT:  WE SEE the WOMAN now INSIDE THE CAR –a little yellow car–with matching yellow hubcaps.  (It   looks like a “toy”.)   And  –as  she is driving, driving (through the streets of Boston) WE SEE the little yellow car CHANGING COLORS as she drives.  Also as she drives–WE SEE people,  lined along the streets.  They are STANDING, STANDING, STANDING, waiting to SEE this odd scene–this car–that is changing colors and SEE  the WOMAN –who is behind the wheel.  When the WOMAN in her “color car” (with  color  hubcaps to match) has driven her route so ALL can see:  TRANSITION SHOT:  WE SEE the WOMAN and the car move–WARP–through an INVISIBLE  TUNNEL.   Once through this “time warp”  the woman and the car come out on the OTHER SIDE .  Only this time–the woman is wearing all WHITE and the car she is driving has also “transitioned”.    The car is now a WHITE ON WHITE ROLLS ROYCE CORNICHE .  The convertible top on this brand new white on white Rolls Royce Corniche is DOWN  and the woman (whose long hair is now blowing in the wind) is SMILING.  As we CLOSE UP on the car WE SEE the license plate.  It reads:  RENEE  1  . . . .  AS the Rolls Royce rolls along the scenic stretch of the Cote d’Azure (the French Riviera)  . . . .A CAMERA  OVERHEAD  FOLLOWS….

      RENEE’S   REVIEW:  Gee GAGA I loved the St. Tropez outfit and I loved the new song “Born This Way”  (its classic pop) plus its easy to dance to (yeah I said it! ! !)….I like to dance like Gaga dances doing all the old dances and not just the new ones.  (This dancing “like you’re naked” dancing got me a following–and a fan club–when ever I’d go out dancing at the dance clubs (aka the “discos”)….When–I saw Gaga actually doing the “Charleston” in her “Bad Romance” video I flipped!

     RENEE’S REVIEW:   I loved the RETRACTABLE set–it was awesome!  It did justice to this rebel–this “resistance”  song.  (“Victorious!”)….The 80′s music videos which this reminded me of–are still some of the most dramatic and CREATIVE ever made.

       1/3   cup  sugar

        2  teaspoons cornstarch

        1/4  cup  vinegar

        1  tablespoon butter

      1.  Drain the beets, reserving one-quarter cup of the liquid.

     2.    Combine the sugar and cornstarch and stir in the vinegar and beet liquid (or water).    Cook , stirring , over low heat until the mixture is thickened and smooth. 

     3.  Add the beets and the butter and cook until heated through. 

     YIELD:  4 to 6 servings

 

2.  IRMA’S   ONION   SANDWICHES

      7  brioche or any fine-textured bread 

     18 small, wafer-thin slices raw onion 

      3/4 cup mayonaise

       salt to taste 

       1/2 cup minced parsley

       1.  Slice the brioche across in pieces about one-quarter inch thick; there should be about five slices from each brioche.  Cut the slices into rounds with a small biscuit cutter, about one inch in diameter.

       2.  Choose  small onions and slice them so that each circle will be a little smaller than the brioche rounds. 

      3.  Spread each piece of brioche with mayonnaise.  On half the pieces arrange one onion slice and season with salt.  Cover the onion with the remaining pices of brioche to make sandwiches. 

     4.  Spread the remaining mayonnaise on a wooden board and sprinkle the chopped parsley on another board.  Hold each sandwich lightly between thumb and finger so it will turn like a wheel.  Roll the edge in mayonnaise, then in parsley.  Set the sandwiches, as they are completed, on waxed paper and chill thoroughly.

 

3.  CAROUSEL GELATIN CUPS

       1 package (4 serving size)  JELL-O, any  red  flavor

       Animal crackers

       COOL  WHIP Whipped Topping, thawed 

      PREPARE  gelatin as directed on package:

     2.  Pour into individual serving dishes. 

     3.  Chill until firm, about 2 hours. 

     4.  Arrange cookies around inside rim of each dish. 

     5.  Garnish with whipped topping

    YIELD:  4  Servings

     Prep time: 10 minutes   and  Chill time: 2 hours

 

 

4.  STARS AND STRIPES GELATIN DESSERT

5.  COUNTRY TIME LEMONADE PUNCH (“Summer Punch”)

    1 six-ounce can frozen lemon juice

    1/2  cup light corn syrup

    1 quart  ginger ale

    1  tray ice cubes

   1.  Empty the lemon juice into a large pitcheer and stir in the syrup.

  2.  At serving time, add the giner ale and ice cubes.  Mix well and serve immediately. 

     YIELD:  8  servings

 

6.  RENEE’S  ASHLEY BAKER’S  SPARKLING TIME SUMMER CHAMPAGNE PUNCH  (“Tropical Tea Punch”) 

   1 quart freshly brewed tea

   1 cup sugar

   2 cups (1 pint) cognac

  1/2 cup (4 ounces) light rum    (SIR CAPTAIN MORGAN)

   1 can frozen pineapple chunks, de-frosted, with liquid

   2 bottles dry champagne, chilled (MOET)

   Fresh peeled fruit, cut in cubes, and melon balls for garnish.

   1. When the tea has cooled to room temperature, stir in the sugar until it has dissolved. 

2.  Combine the tea, cognac, rum and pineapple chunks.  Chill thoroughly.  Meanwhile, fill a ring mold or a star mold with water and freeze. 

3.  When ready to serve, pour the tea mixture into a punch bowl.  Unmold the ice and add to the bowl.  Pour in the champagne and garnish with fresh fruit and melon balls.

Recipes–Wednesday–(From The New York Times) 

1.  CRAB AND ARTICHOKE CANAPES

1/2 cup Russian dressing 

 1/4 teaspoon dry mustard 

1 six-ounce can crabmeat, pick over well 

 1 ten-ounce can artichoke bottoms, drained

2 tablespoons chopped parsley

  Lemon wedges 

 1.  Combine the Russian dressing and mustard and fold in the crabmeat, mixing lightly but thoroughly. 

 2.  Pile the mixture on the artichoke bottoms.  Just before serving, brown the canapes in a preheated broiler and sprinkle with chopped parsley.  Garnish with lemon wedges and serve immediately. 

 Yield:  8 to 12 canapes

 

2.   CANAPES  A LA SIMON  

  1.  Cut small rounds of thinkly sliced bread with a biscuit cutter and toast in broiler. 

2.  In a skillet, cook six or seven slices bacon until soft, chop and mix with one cup Major Grey’s chutney. 

3.  Spread the mixture ont he toast rounds and broil in a preheated broiler about five inches from the source of heat until a slight crust is formed on top and the canapes are heated through.

Yield:  About 2 dozen canapes

 

 3.  SHERRIED  SHRIMP

24 medium shrimp, shelled and deveined

1/4 cup soy sauce

1/4 cup sherry

1/4 cup salad oil

1 teaspoon powdered giner, or 1 tablespoon fresh ginger root, ground

1 clove garlic, finely chopped

1.  Marinate the raw shrimp in the remaining ingredients one hour or less. 

2.  Place the shrimp with a little of the marinade in a skillet and cook three or four minutes, until the shrimp are done.  If possible, use an electric skillet. 

Yield:  4 servings

 4.  RENEE ASHLEY BAKER’S TIPS FOR SERVING COLD DRINKS:

          a.  Freeze ice cubes containing:  Olives, cocktail onions and twists of lemon. 

          b.   When mixing drinks just pop one of these ice cubes into the glass

          Pamela Anderson  performed Brigitte Bardot’s famous song “Harley Davidson” at the Crazy Horse in Paris France….She (Pamela Anderson) walked out on stage wearing a sheer black bodystocking but stripped naked in front of two sold out audiences.  The Press and the Media were told “non pas entrez”.  (That means “Do Not Enter” in French).   Anyway,  Pam did “BB”  (and the audience)  proud as the ‘Valentine’s Day’  crowd  paid a whopping  $300 a ticket….  Unfortunately, there was no such “funny Valentine”  from hubby Rick as Pam is seeking to get out of her  “4 month marriage”….(For those who may not know,  Rick Saloman, was the former boyfriend of another  uberfemme fatale, Paris Hilton….)
