              Dear Mother:

              I say,  ”Merry Christmas Mother” because you made me French toast on Christmas morning (and because you made me French toast every morning when I was a little girl growing up in your house in St. Louis, Missouri).

               I say, “Merry Christmas Mother”  because you made every Christmas a happy and memorable one as I shall never forget your endless gifts to me of bubble bath and bath salts, nightgowns with matching robe and house slippers, necklaces and watches, and cameras and tape recorders.

                   I say, “Merry Christmas Mother” because I remember, even now, the beautiful colors, of the wheel that lit your silver Christmas tree and lit (warmly) the beautifully wrapped packages that you had carefully placed underneath it (year after year after year).

                    I say, “Merry Christmas Mother” because the smell of your Nestle Toll House Cookies and apple pies wafted through  the house every Christmas as I sipped iced tea through a straw out of one of your colorful plastic tumblers .  (I was only two years old at that time but it wasn’t until I was older that I got to drink out of the crystal glasses that my brother “James” brought to my mother from Germany.  The same crystal glasses (with the gold rims) that my brother would play music on whenever he came home for Christmas.  (Note:  It is my same brother–James–who was in the U.S. Air Force,  who did some “secret work” for the U.S. Secret Service,  who was friends with a real ’Dupont’, and who lived on Fifth Avenue in New York just a few short blocks away from the Fifth Avenue apartment of  former First Lady Jackie KENNEDY  Onassis. . . .).

                     I say, “Merry Christmas Mother”  because you  were always beautiful and because I love you and because it is you who Royalty, the jet set, and other  “very important people”  will see when they look at this website and when they look at me.

Note:  My Mother (Mrs. Ashley pictured above) wore silk dresses and crocodile heels; wore real diamond jewelry (pictured above), wore a real leopard coat and  owned a  real sterling silver tea set (not silver plate).  My Mother (Mrs. Ashley pictured above) was an Eastern Star (the female equivalent of a Mason) and –My Mother (Mrs. Ashley pictured above)  was born in the great year (with Bentley) of  1 9 1 9. . . .

PLANNING:
Fly Early In The Day. At airports scheduled to capacity, any delay in the morning means there will be at least that much of delay for every flight thereafter.

Depart A Day In Advance. For crucial trips, such as a business meeting or a wedding.

Check the Delay Statistic For your flight: For how often that flight is more than 15 minutes late on a scale of 1 to 9 (the lower the number, the more often it’s late)–before you book your tickets. Make A Call– If you get to the gate and the airline says you’ve lost your seat: Contact the ‘Coalition for an Airline Passangers’ Bill of Rights’ at 877-359-3776. Kate Hanni, the group’s founder, says stranded passengers have told her that seats were suddenly found for them when they called CAPBOR from the airport and let airline personnel know they’d done so. If your flight is canceled, the group’s volunteer staff will help you book hotels, research your flight status, offer alternative routes, help with car rental, and relay weather information.

Understand Your Options: When you’re stuck on the ground for hours after boarding, there’s a reason. “If the airlines lock the doors, the don’t have to provide refunds, credits, lodgling, and food expenses” says Paul Hudson, executive director of the Aviation Consumer Action Project. You can circulate a petition demanding to be let off the plane and take it to the cockpit. An airline can’t hold people against their will unless there is a safety reason, and the Captain has the authority to let people off. If the situation worsens, call the police or a local TV or radio station from your cell phone. CAPBOR hotline volunteers can also put you in touch with the media.

Join The Fight: To enact an Airline Passengers’ Bill of Rights federal legislation that would mandate, among other things. that passengers be allowed to deplane when they are held on the tarmac for more than three hours as well as require airlines to provide delayed passengers with food, water, sanitary facilities, and medical attention. Know, however, that the major U.S. carriers are dead set against the bill, arguing that cockpit crews should make these calls.                           DIARY:  “DESTINATION  HYANNISPORT”

         I have decided to visit Hyannisport (aka “The Kennedy Compound”)….I will stay for 30-60 days (during the months of July and August 2008)….I have decided to visit Hyannisport for two reasons–(1) it “is” the home of  the legendary President John Fitzgerald Kennedy (he was and still “is” America’s “favorite”  U.S. President) and  (2) I must make the trip to Hyannisport  for “history’s sake”  (and so that I can talk with and meet “my” Kennedy family)….I have decided to “keep a diary” of my stay at Hyannisport also–for “history’s sake”….  (I may or may not “go sailing” on one of those “famous Kennedy boats”).  I will also get to visit the “JFK Library” in Boston–which I will include in “my screenplay”….

   MY PACKING LIST:   My packing list, for Hyannis Port,  will include all the items pictured above plus– 6 pairs of  Jackie O “Bernardo Sandals” .  I will also pack my black Jimmy Choo evening pumps, my Tiffany sunglasses, a Mikimoto Pearl choker with matching pearl bracelet, and a gold Judith Lieber evening clutch…I will Executive Produce my motion picture and U.S. Senator Edward M Kennedy will co-produce and consult….I will make $104.3 million dollars but President John F. Kennedy and U.S. Senator Robert F. Kennedy both–want it that way….

The First Lady: A  ‘Most Expensive’ Second Act

Did you know that while married to Aristotle Onassis Jacqueline Kennedy received a set of earrings as a birthday present to commemorate the “Apollo 11″ mission?   In “Jackie Oh!” by Kitty Kelley the earrings are described as follows:  “A sapphire-studded earth (globe)  at the ear and a large ruby moon hanging from a chain.  The Apollo Ship was attached to a thin gold thread which circled the sapphire earth and then dropped down to the ruby moon”.  And…did you know that Aristotle, the attentive and  adoring husband, made a habit of leaving a little surprise for Jackie on her breakfast tray each morning, even if he was thousands of miles away?  Sometimes it was a poem, but more often it was a gold or diamond bracelet.  Once, Jackie found a string of Japanese cultured pearls wrapped around a roll….

Ari happily indulged his wife Jackie’s spending sprees.   In “The $20,000,000 Honeymoon” author Fred Sparks let the title speak for itself.  Sparks calculated that the  ‘$20 million’  broke down to approximately $384,615.33  cents per week.*
