A recipe for Dad  from  The New York Times

 

 SWEETBREADS   A   LA   KING

 2 pairs sweetbreads

Water

6 tablespoons butter

12 fresh mushrooms, sliced

1 green pepper, seeded and chopped

1 canned pimento, chopped

1/2 cup sherry

1 cup heavy cream

2 tablespoons flour

1 cup milk

1 teaspoon salt

4 patty shells, purchased

1. Soak the  sweetbreads in ice water forty-five minutes.  Drain and cook slowly in simmering water to cover until white, fifteen to twenty minutes.  Drain, cool in ice water and remove all covering and connective tissues.  Cut into small cubes. 

2.  Melt half the butter in a saucepan, add the mushrooms, green pepper and pimento and cook about ten minutes.  Add half the sherry and cream. 

3.  Simmer until the sauce is reduced by about half.  Add the diced sweetbreads.

  4.  In a saucepan melt the remaining butter,  add the flour and stir with a wire whisk until blended.   Meanwhile, bring the milk to a boil and add all at once to the butter-flour mixture, stirring vigorously with the whisk.  Add to the sweet-bread mixture and season with salt. 

 5.  Add the remaining cream and sherry just before pouring the mixture into the heated patty shells. 

Yield:  4 Servings

PLANNING:
Fly Early In The Day. At airports scheduled to capacity, any delay in the morning means there will be at least that much of delay for every flight thereafter.

Depart A Day In Advance. For crucial trips, such as a business meeting or a wedding.

Check the Delay Statistic For your flight: For how often that flight is more than 15 minutes late on a scale of 1 to 9 (the lower the number, the more often it’s late)–before you book your tickets. Airlines are required by law to give you the stat if you ask for it: many post it on their websites. If the number is 5 or below and time is of the essence, consider another flight.

Kate Hanni, the group’s founder, says stranded passengers have told her that seats were suddenly found for them when they called CAPBOR from the airport and let airline personnel know they’d done so. You can circulate a petition demanding to be let off the plane and take it to the cockpit. An airline can’t hold people against their will unless there is a safety reason, and the Captain has the authority to let people off. Join The Fight: To enact an Airline Passengers’ Bill of Rights federal legislation that would mandate, among other things. that passengers be allowed to deplane when they are held on the tarmac for more than three hours as well as require airlines to provide delayed passengers with food, water, sanitary facilities, and medical attention. Know, however, that the major U.S. carriers are dead set against the bill, arguing that cockpit crews should make these calls.            IT is my understanding that Germany has been seeking a “design” for what is being called the “Fall Of The Wall Memorial”.  

         This “memorial” all commemorate the “fall of the Berlin wall” (in 1989).  This  “memorial” is to be located right in the heart of Berlin on land that is approximately 3000 sq metres. 

          So….I, Renee Ashley Baker, would like to hereby –officially–submit, to the Culture Minister of Germany, my CONCEPT for the “Fall Of  The Wall Memorial”….

                      I have already prepared my Chanel “order”.     I am buying the   outfit (pictured above) to wear out and about in Washington DC….Senator Edward M. Kennedy will be taking me to dinner.  (I will be sending a photo of my dinner with Senator  Kennedy–and Mrs Kennedy– to the editor of the “society page” of   “Town & Country”   magazine….)

            Below are the “outfits” that I wish to order  from Chanel.   I’ll want them in your “largest” pret-a- porter sizes….(I am not fat but  I am  not a “bone showing” size 2 either).

           As you can see  ( link below) this wardrobe (this “War—robe”) has to carry me through the day “on the set”,  “at the office”,  at “dinner or event”, and on weekends (for shopping or for facials at the salon).

           After,  this “2008 spring-summer/fall winter season” I would like (for 2009) a “look book” and– I’d like “front row seats” at your show.  (I’m not “good friends” with any celebrities yet so I’ll probably come alone.  Unless, say,  actress Catherine Deneuve would “sit with me” at the Paris shows).

   
          Anywho  I will  be in for “couture” fittings (for a  “Ball Gown” and three or four Chanel suits which I want “lined” in patterned silk and “trimmed” in sable….)         

           I look forward to meeting with you at your Washington  DC store which– I believe– is inside the Watergate Hotel.   (Note:  I “will” be handing in my “white pages” once I have arrived in Washington DC but–I “won’t” be doing “this”  at the Watergate).
