“HIS” name was Mr. Ashley and he is the only father that I, Renee Ashley Baker, will ever know. (Ashley is my father’s last name–not Moore). Anyway, Mr. Ashley (my father) served in the U.S. Army (in Korea) and my father (Mr. Ashley) was also a MASON. (I do not know what “degree” but I suspect it was pretty high). Mr. Ashley (my father) smoked a pipe and drank Budweiser (the St. Louis “King of Beers”) and drank Manechevitz Wine (because, he liked Jews and liked Kosher I guess). And– my father Mr. Ashley (who I called “My Daddy”) smoked–he smoked “cigars” and he smoked “a pipe” and I can remember as a little girl going places with My Father–Mr. Ashley– such as the haberdashery where he’d pick up his Stetson hats, to his “tailor” where he’d pick up his suits and I can remember going with “Daddy” to the “tobacco shop”. (These are things that all little girls remember doing with their “Daddy”).
Mr. Ashley (My Father) had a large family (all brothers and one sister) and all the brothers were MASONS. My Father’s Father –my grandfather (Mr. Ashley)– owned land in a southern state and when that land was sold all of my Uncles (my father’s brothers) bought houses in the late 1950’s in the “wealthy” suburb of St. Louis (called Kinloch). In fact, my Mother (Lady Erma/Irma Ashley) and my father (Mr. Ashley) had also been planning to buy a house in Kinloch (they’d bought new furniture from Stix Baer & Fuller to go in the new “Kinloch” house); But, that, is another story….the house on Ashley Lane (from Miracle on 34th Street…).
I think I said that My Father’s Mother was of Welsh decent (My Mother told me I was of “Welsh decent” but I had been saying that my Father’s Mother was from the “Isle of Harris”….(Who knows? A genealogy will have to be done on my family…The Ashleys). My Father (Mr. Ashley) golfed at the golf course in St. Louis Missouri in the 1960’s (My Father’s–Mr. Ashley’s– golf bag stood in our house in St. Louis, where, on the walls, hung in picture frames were My Father –Mr. Ashley’s– “U.S. Army Good Service Medals” and My Father’s –Mr. Ashley’s– “Letter of Good Military Service” that was signed by President John Fitzgerald Kennedy…Which, I have a copy of, by the way….).
My Father–Mr. Ashley–(I’ve been told)–spoiled me and thought of me as HIS little Princess. (My Father–Mr. Ashley–had my Mother–Erma/Irma– dress me like a Princess in expensive shoes and pretty (expensive) dresses that came from the department stores Famous Barr and Stix Baer & Fuller. Pictured above, is me Renee Ashley Baker, sitting atop My Father’s (Mr. Ashley’s) car; (Yes, My Father–Mr. Ashley–was a BUICK MAN). So, to ALL you “retired soldiers” (Veterans) who served in the Military like Mr. Ashley –my Father–I say, HAPPY VETERAN’S DAY!

I read your story in the Sunday “USA Weekend”. Of course, I wish you success in everything you do (I am sure you are enjoying “Isotope and Radio Active”).
I think your plans to “volunteer” at the V.A.Hospital are great. Years ago, I, Renee Ashley Baker, worked briefly at a V.A. Hospital. I got promoted in just 3 months from a GS-2 to a GS-3 (I was a “clerk typist”).
I’d like to suggest to you an “online university” that you could attend (via computer) for two years; then, after two years you’d be ready to obtain your Bachelor’s Degree at a traditional college.
I am writing this “open letter” hoping that two of my St. Louis companies (Nestle Purina and Gateway Computers) will give you a “scholarship” and a “computer and printer set up” to help you with your “online studies”.

When Luke Skywalker donned a cybernetic hand in “The Empire Strikes Back” to replace the limb he’d lost in a duel with Darth Vader, fully functional prostheses seemed squarely in the realm of science fiction.

In the past few years, though, prosthetic technology has progressed far beyond simple “stick and hook” designs. The newest prostheses, both commercial and experimental closely mimic natural limbs in function and responsiveness and…they are proving their worth in everyday tasks, combat missions, even Olympic races. By detecting the user’s intent (and then adjusting accordingly) the most sophisticated replacement limbs can make almost as many complex movements as their wearers can imagine. “Everything is intuitive” says Levi Hargrove, director of the Neural Engineering for Prosthetics and Orthotics Laboratory at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. “Patients are able to walk around normally as if they’re using their own legs”).

The U.S. Armed Forces officially began using dogs in World War II. Today, over 2,000 working dogs serve in U.S. military operations around the globe with about 600 in combat zones. Most are Belgian Malinois or Dutch or German shepherds. (In 2009, a Belgian Malinois named Cairo, received “official recognition” for participating in the raid that killed Osama bin Laden)….But, even among these exceptional dogs (who can run at speeds of 35 mph and can have up to a 270-degree field of vision) only a small percentage make the “final cut” for SOF after six to 12 months of military training.

My Heroes have always been MEN. My Father (Mr. Ashley); My Uncles (Masons and U.S. Army Men); and My Brother (James who spent 28 years in the U.S. Air Force). However…occasionally, there have been MEN (not related to me) that I, Renee Ashley Baker, DO admire and respect and Muhammed Ali was (and is) one of those MEN. Muhammed Ali and Me go back a long way. I, never met him of course but I, Renee Ashley Baker, remember him before he became Muhammed Ali; I, Renee Ashley Baker, remember him back when he was Casius Clay. I, Renee Ashley Baker, was watching when Casius Clay (aka Muhammed Ali) re-took his title (and became “America’s Champion”). I, Renee Ashley Baker, remember all the “hoopla” and the “chants” that resounded wherever Muhammed Ali went: “Ali Ali Ali”…. And…. yes, I, Renee Ashley Baker, actually saw the “Thriller in Manilla”. I, Renee Ashley Baker, actually bought tickets (or got my tickets paid for as I really don’t remember now) and we all know how the “Thrilla in Manilla” went…you got to your seat (in the theatre) sat down, then stood up again—and left…LOL. Yep, those were the “good ole, good ole” days. Muhammed Ali made rich by Roone Arlidge (at ABC). Muhammed Ali, his houses and his cars; Muhammed Ali, his wives and his girlfriends (remember Portia? the divorce? the settlement to the first wife? It was ALL THAT and a bag of PATE !…) Of course, by this time, I, Renee Ashley Baker, had moved away from home. I, Renee Ashley Baker, was age 17 1/2 and was living outside the state of Colorado with “various MEN”; and it was these “various Men” who taught me “the fight game”….And, it was ABC Sports, Roone Arlidge and Howard Cossell that made Muhammed Ali “Rich”. Boxing, like I said, was something I learned about from my “various boyfriends” and LOVERS; I learned from MEN who “watched the fights” when the “fights” would come on TV. (It was one of these MEN–these “boyfriends” who taught me what “Rabbit Punching” was….LOL.) It (the fight game) went from ABC TV to Pay-TV (Showtime) then to Pay-Per-View. There was a period when Las Vegas ran boxing (and I, Renee Ashley Baker, always hated Las Vegas. I, Renee Ashley Baker, had co-workers who’d invite me to Las Vegas for their every weekend “Las Vegas fun trips” but I, Renee Ashley Baker, always said “NO”)…..Steve Wynn bought boxing and everybody made money EXCEPT the “Fighters”. Although for a while ….Mike Tyson had money, mansions and cars (remember Robin Givens of Sarah Lawrence? and her “battles” with the hangers-on about the “porta-potties”…LOL….What, by the way, did Robin Givens get in that divorce settlement? If, I recall correctly it was only a fraction of what she asked for). And….as we all know Mike Tyson went to prison and later admitted that he was broke (bilked/robbed by “promoters”) although he–Mike Tyson– was, at least he seemed, finally happy and “funny” when I saw him on ABC TV’s “House Swap” TV show…..
SO, the last “fighter” that I saw fight was Sugar Ray Leonard (the Olympic champion) and of course I’ve promoted the “George Foreman Grill” on this Blog. (I’ve only read about the new Champ “Floyd Mayweather” on Judiciary Report. It seems he “hit the girlfriend” that he’d given a $60,000 Hermes handbag too….LOL….)
I, Renee Ashley Baker, can’t stand “American Sports” now. I, Renee Ashley Baker, hate the HGH crooks like Lance Armstrong and the various HGH “baseball cheats”. I, Renee Ashley Baker, hate the “so-called football players” like John Elway whose “shady” business deals involved “unsophisticated investors” who “lost their pension retirements”. I, Renee Ashley Baker, am leaving the United States because it (the United States) is allowing “4’9 Mexican Peppy” to “run things”. RENEE ASHLEY BAKER’S RELATIVES: EVERY summer my Mother Erma/Irma (standing behind us all wearing the blue dress) would take us on “vacation”. First it was to Colorado. Then in later years Mother would vacation “annually” in New Jersey, in New York City (The Hamptons), in St. Louis and at the annual “Family Reunions”). Pictured above, starting at left is the little boy: He is an adult now and he was awarded a “commendation” by FBI Director Robert Mueller for exceptional police work (his office is in the J.Edgar Hoover Building in Washington DC); and he–the little boy–now has a son (Miguel) who is a Grammy Nominated musician, both he and his son (Miguel) reside in the “wealthy community” of Roswell Georgia. Next to him (in the yellow dress) is a “country club debutante Democrat” whose “sorority sister” wrote and published a “photo book” about President Obama’s 2009 “presidential campaigne”; Next to her (in the black & white check dress–with the “Harlequin” collar) is myself (Renee Ashley Baker); notice how everybody is looking forward except me I’m looking “askance” (with my astigmatism) at the “height”…. we’re all standing atop Royal Gorge Bridge….!
